Wilhelm Klauditz Medal for Horst Buschalsky and Arno Frühwald

Braunschweig, 1st July 2022

Prof. Dr. Arno Frühwald and Ministerialrat (ret.) Horst Buschalsky were awarded the Wilhelm Klauditz Medal donated by the International Association for Technical Issues Related to Wood e. V. – iVTH. The ceremony took place following the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Fraunhofer WKI in Braunschweig on 1st July 2022.

The ceremony was postponed due to attendance restrictions during the last two years. The occasion for the award was the farewell of the two gentlemen from the Executive Committee and Advisory Board of the iVTH as well as the Board of Trustees of the Fraunhofer WKI.

The Chair of the two boards, Kai Greten, thanked both gentlemen for their committed collaboration and valuable support over many years. Together with the Director of the Fraunhofer Institute, Prof. Bohumil Kasal, Mr. Greten honored Prof. Frühwald and Mr. Buschalsky with the Wilhelm Klauditz Medal.

Prof. Frühwald was Head of the Institute for Wood Physics and Mechanical Wood Technology at the University of Hamburg and until 2010 Head of the Institute for Wood Technology and Wood Biology at the vTI (today Thünen-Institut). After 18 years as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Fraunhofer WKI and the iVTH-Advisory Board, he resigned from these offices in 2020 and 2021 respectively.

Mr. Buschalsky was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Fraunhofer WKI and the Executive Committee of the iVTH from 2006 to 2019. As a ministerial councilor (Ministerialrat) in the Lower Saxony Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection, he was responsible for forest policy and timber industry. His commitment has always been to wood and its external presentation as an important raw material.
