LIGNA at the Messe Hannover
15th to 19st May 2023
After four years without the trade fair, the time had come again: The Messe Hannover opened the gates for the LIGNA 23.
In Hall 26, the Fraunhofer Institute for Wood Research WKI and the iVTH provided insights into the research work on wood and renewable raw materials. The joint stand offered information on numerous research topics and practical solutions. The visitors showed great interest and also praised the design of the stand and the presentation of scientific work.
With the Multi-material model Wall I Ceiling I Roof, the Fraunhofer WKI presented innovations for the future of buildings – from the story ceiling via the walls to the roof. Among other things, this included a ceiling system module for ecological refurbishment of old buildings and thermal insulation bricks filled with innovative insulation materials based on beech wood fibers.
Robinia wood – the wood species with the highest durability class among European wood species – has been the focus of research work at the Fraunhofer WKI for some time now. Against the backdrop of climate changes, Robinia wood is to be made usable for the construction sector, e. g. as glulam.
Projects of the Industrial Collective Research (IGF) supervised by the iVTH were also presented. The topics included a new rapid-aging procedure for wood-based materials as well as fire protection. In these fields, the Fraunhofer WKI works together with other research institutions to develop applicable solutions.
The LIGNA is the world's leading trade fair for machinery, plants and tools for woodworking and wood processing. According to the organizer, 1300 exhibitors from 50 countries registered. The leading themes of the LIGNA 23 were sustainability and digitization.
